Climate action

action to combat climate change

Climate change affects forest ecosystems in Finland as well as the availability of natural raw materials. The Lumene Group passionately fights against climate change awith concrete actions. Besides reducing our direct CO2 emissions, we are also working to minimise our indirect emissions.

WETLAND RESTORATION TO PROTECT NORDIC NATURE AND TO INCREASE BIODIVERSITY

The Lumene Group supports wetland restoration in collaboration with the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation in two separate wetland areas in Southern Finland: Rusalansuo and Savansuo wetlands in Pieksämäki and Miehikkälä municipalities.

IN THE PROCESS OF SETTING THE SCIENCE BASED TARGETS FOR LUMENE GROUP

The preliminary goal is to reduce absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% by the end of year 2030 compared to the base year of 2021.

Scopes 1 and 2 represent only 2.1% of total emissions of the LUMENE Group. Scope 3 emissions are 9 999 tCO2e and it represents 97.9% of total emissions.

A new, third-party CO2 emission calculation tool was introduced in 2022. This creates strong ownership and improved accuracy for CO2 emission calculations in the Lumene Group’s value chain.

With actions taken in our premises in Espoo, Finland, we have reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 88% since 2018.

"We create beauty that respects the limited resources of our planet."
